SBNA Board Meeting Minutes

Fox Hills Community Center, 61030 Lodgepole

7:00 – 8:30pm

The meeting was called to order by Mike Lovely.  Seana Barry, Dianne Crampton, Joe Barry, Rod Cathcart, Dallas Patten, Matt Ryan and Judy Clinton were present.

The May 10th Board minutes were read and approved.  Joe Barry reported we had $2,188.83 in the treasury.  This is up $300 from last month due to Newsletter advertising.

Judy Clinton made presentation from the Refinement Plan Committee.  The consultants submitted 3 proposals and committee renderred input on all 3.  Judy made 2 proposals of her own showing that Romaine Village does not want a road running through their neighborhood.  The consultants came up with their last proposal as of 6/2/05.  The proposal approved by the SBNA Board backed Preferred Alternative Linear Park Version 2.  Dianne motioned to approve and Dallas seconded.  The motion passed unanimously.    Mike will write letter of support from the Board backing the proposal after we receive a response from City on 6/12/05.

Matt Ryan has been appointed to the SBNA Board.

There was a discussion on the City’s Neighborhood On-line Newsletter and it received an unfavorable review by Dianne and Mike.

Dianne will pursue getting our names in the League of Women’s Voters’ Directory – this would put our Board positions as positions of leadership in community.

COCAAN no longer has a Directory.

The Board discussed Bite of Bend.  An e-mail was received from Diane Ross seeking volunteers for NA booth.  Mike and Seana will volunteer from 10:45-12:45 on 6/18/05.

Upcoming Land Use Pre-App meetings:

1.      6/16/05 @ 4:15/American First Title.  Hollygrape subdivision

2.      6/16/05 @ 5:00/Hickman,Williams and Assoc.  West Badger Crossing subdivision.

Diane suggested it might be appropriate to start asking for water use plans at the Pre-App meetings – Mike will pursue this.

SBNA note cards are being printed.  Mike will bring a sample to the next meeting.  Mike suggested it would be nice to write welcome notes to new homeowners in area.

The Weed Pull is scheduled for 6/18/05.

Century West NA is requesting brochures, etc. for ideas.  We will send a copy of our newsletter and Spring Fest flyer.

The Board discussed the Astro-turf at Lodgepole and Brookswood.  Dianne reported a mixed responses from members.  A motion was put forth for to form a median committee to address city medians and to coordinate with other Neighborhood Associations in the effort.  Dianne will chair the committee.  Rod motioned, Dallas seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.

Mike reported that a resident in Romaine Village requested streetlights – he reiterated that the majority of people in Romaine Village do not want streetlights.

Mike read the letter he wrote to Demitri Hovekamp in response to the picture/article in the newspaper.

SBNA’s incorporation papers are signed and ready to send.

Mike gave Dianne a CD with the elk logo to work into letterhead and brochures.

Mike thought it would be a good idea for the NA to sponsor an American Red Cross Blood Drive.  Board thought it would be a good idea.  Dianne will send info to members to get interest in the project.

Mike presented COPY (Central Oregon Partnership for Youth)-mentoring program for children of inmates.  Mike wants to mention the COPU program and the SMART Reading Program on the web site and in newsletter.

Mike reported on the Franklin Garden Clean Up.  Volunteers from the Neighborhood Associations helped resident on Gilchrist St clean his yard.

The Fall Membership Meeting date is set for 10/11/05 at Elk Meadow School.

Harvest Craft Fair – SBNA will have a table and maybe a raffle.  Dianne will ask chairperson, Allison Clair, to come to future SBNA Board meeting.

Mike would like SBNA to sponsor a focus group with the Sheriff’s office educating people about what the Sheriff’s office does and the services they provide for City of Bend residents.  A special meeting would need to be called – possibly in September.

The SBNA Ice Cream Social is scheduled for Thursday, 8/4/05 @ 6:30 at Wildflower Park.

Seana will contact Dianne about a letter to Bruce Ronning regarding a potential neighborhood project at the So Canyon Foot Bridge.

Dianne reported she will attend a Fundraising Seminar in Portland.

Matt compiled list of responses from members about traffic concerns.  The Board discussed which City Staff he should contact to get things done.

The meeting adjourned at 9:00pm.
