General Membership Meeting – October 13, 2005

 

I.           Introductions

·          Jeanne thanked Todd Sprague and St. Charles Medical Center for the donation of the room for the meeting.  

·          Jeanne introduced Diane Ross, Chair of Southern Crossing Neighborhood Association (NA) who is working under contract with the City’s Office of NAs as Development Coordinator for new and emerging NAs.    She also introduced Eloisa Chavez who is the NA Coordinator for the City.

·          Jeanne introduced Jim Mazziotti as MVNA Vice Chair and Lynn Russell as Secretary/Treasurer.

·          Jeanne introduced Norm Ziesmer from Bend Metro Parks and Recreation who will present an overview of parks new to the MVNA area.

II.           Welcome to New Members

·          Jeanne asked how many were attending for the first time; 11 new attendees were present.     She asked how attendees learned of the meeting; the majority indicated the tax lot mailing was effective.   A small number indicated they learned of the meeting via the Bend Bulletin ad(s).

·          Jeanne asked attendees to introduce themselves to the person next to them.

III.          Review of Accomplishments

·          Jeanne directed attendees to the list of accomplishments included in the packet of meeting materials.   Note: this list is included on the website and copies were mailed on October 20 to all members of record who did not attend.

·          She reviewed the activities that have taken place since MVNA was revived in October, 2004.  

·          She detailed the activities that have taken place since July to provide input to the City, Oregon Department of Transportation and the Oregon Transportation Commission regarding the location of a major intersection at Cooley Road .

·          She explained that members need to closely follow the planning process for the connection of Empire to 27th Street which will begin in 2006.   This connection will bring increased vehicle traffic, including trucks, to 27th.

IV.         Bend Metro Parks & Recreation – New Parks

·          Norm Ziesmer reviewed plans for the two new parks being built within MVNA geography; Mountain View Park off Connors and Al Moody Park on Daggett Lane .

·          He explained the process to obtain resident input during the planning process and detailed what amenities will be provided at each park.   He also reviewed the overall planning process for parks in the city and explained that Bend Metro P&R works with developers of new subdivisions to encourage adding neighborhood parks to the project.

V.          Break

·          Norm answered individual questions from attendees during the break.

VI.         Request for new MVNA Board Members

·          Jeanne explained to the membership that MVNA needs more individuals to volunteer for Board positions.   The position of Secretary/Treasurer is open for 2005-2006 as well as the Land Use Committee Chair.

·          She also indicated that she will be a “snowbird” again this winter and regrets that this means that without more volunteers, MVNA won’t continue to make progress on issues important to our members.  

·          She asked for volunteers and Deb Kraus and Alan Eames offered to serve.

·          A majority of the members present elected Deb and Alan as new Board Members.

·          Jim Mazziotti, as Vice-Chair, will hold Board meetings to include the new members.

·          Jeanne indicated she will send an email to members to ask for more participation.

VII.        Survey

·          Jeanne reviewed the survey which was included in the meeting handouts.   She asked members to complete the survey and noted that copies will be mailed to all MVNA members not present at the meeting.

VIII.        Adjourn

·          The meeting adjourned at 8:45 pm with 28 attendees.
